Before supermarkets. Before plastic wrap. Before everything was the same everywhere — there were crate labels.
This is an original California citrus crate label — a 1950s lithograph produced for Sunkist Oranges, Redlands, California. It has never been used. Never folded. Never attached to a crate. It is New Old Stock in excellent condition, found in the original unused factory stock.
The label is beautiful. A single dahlia — full, layered, rendered with the careful attention of a botanical illustration — sits at the center of the composition. The Redlands region was famous for its citrus groves, and the growers chose the dahlia as their emblem: elegant, California-grown, unmistakably refined. At approximately 11.0 by 10.0 inches, this is a large label, and it carries the weight of that size. The image fills a wall.
Frame it and hang it. It works in a kitchen, a sunroom, a bedroom, or a hallway — anywhere you want a quiet piece of botanical art that carries a story. The dahlia's warm tones and the label's generous proportions make it a natural fit for farmhouse, cottage, mid-century, and eclectic interiors alike. At 11.0 by 10.0 inches it fits a standard 11x14 or 12x12 frame beautifully. Two available.
A wonderful gift for a flower lover, a California history enthusiast, a vintage decor collector, or anyone who appreciates botanical illustration in an unexpected form.
A note on crate label collecting: Original lithographic crate labels from this era are increasingly scarce. NOS examples like this one — never used, never folded, in original unused condition — represent the best of what survives. Collectors prize them for their graphic quality and the window they open onto a vanished chapter of American agricultural and commercial history.
